Nutrition
Keep it simple – be mindful but do not complicate nutrition with tracking and strict rules. All those paths lead to disordered and obsessive thinking about eating. Your diet is a series of food choices that you make each day that nourish your brain and body.
You are what you eat. No truer words were said!
Everything in moderation including moderation!
some general guidelines i like to follow:
Eat breakfast – never skip!
Eat every 3-4 hours
Eat to satisfaction, not fullness
Eat single ingredient foods: apples, carrots, eggs, chicken, etc.
Drink lots of water all day long: 6 – 8 glasses per day minimum
Eat a rainbow: over the course of your day and week – oranges, blueberries, strawberries, greens, red peppers, carrots, yams, etc.
Eat good fats: daily that nourish the brain – coconut oil, nut butters, nuts, olive oil, avocados, etc.
Seek to eat protein, carbohydrates and fat each time you eat a meal or snack: The body will run efficiently and blood sugar will remain stable
Limit dairy: good options are Greek yogurt, occasional low fat cheese
Limit packaged foods: if the list of ingredients is long and you cannot pronounce most of the words, it is probably not a good idea to eat it
Avoid simple sugar - sugar, candy, cake, pie, etc. If you partake, ensure the next time you eat includes a sufficient amount of protein to minimize the sugar crash and sugar craving cycle that may kick in
Avoid all artificial sweeteners: they are truly toxic
Avoid soda
Avoid all processed foods: if you must, look for brands such as Newman’s Own, Amy’s, or other good quality organic.
Avoid fried foods
