Treasure Mapping
Another way to approach goal setting is to create a collage to visualize your goals and dreams. You start by picturing your life a year from now:
You have everything you ever desired. All your dreams have come true; you are peaceful and content. You trust yourself and the universe. Your search for meaning is complete and you feel confident about your future. What does your life look like? Spend some time imagining it. What are your relationships like? How is your health? How are your finances? How is your family? What are you doing for spiritual growth?
After you have completed the reflection and visualization, go through your magazines and cut out pictures that excite you. Don't analyze during this process; just go through the magazines as fast as you can and pull out pictures that have positive energy for you. Set a timer for no more than 15 minutes. Don't second guess yourself. Be guided by your first impulses.
Notice everything in your life that is inconsistent with the future you saw in the visualization and in your collage. Then set goals in each of the areas defined in the list format template to see if there are any areas that need further consideration to encourage life balance and to create the future you desire.
Whether you begin with a list and then create the collage, or start with treasure mapping and then end with a list, the most important thing is that you do it.
